Susanne B. Montgomery, PhD, MPH, MS
Dr. Susanne B. Montgomery is currently the Associate Dean for Research in the School of Behavioral Health (SBH). She is a Professor of Social Work and Social Ecology, Public Health, and Preventive Medicine and the Division Head of the SBH Interdisciplinary Studies Program. She leads a university wide translational research team to incorporate behavioral health in research engagement efforts by mentoring faculty and students on translational research. Trained as a social/behavioral epidemiologist she is passionate about collaborating with hard-to-access, underserved populations to address health disparities from a translational behavioral health and prevention perspective. Her collaboration and mentorship involves a commitment to collaborations with local and international underserved communities, using mixed methods approaches to conduct participatory research, as well as international capacity building and collaborations in India, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Congo, Kenya, Angola and South Africa, spanning topics such as HIV, vaccination, resilience, maternal and child health, lifestyle interventions and mental health. She has been a PI/Co-I on multiple NIH, CDC, Foundation, and State funded projects, has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles and serves as a peer reviewer for NIH, CDC and several professional journals.
