Muhammad Salman
Dr. Muhammad Salman is a medical graduate with expertise in public health microbiology. He is a fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) in the discipline of Pathology with specialization in medical microbiology. He also has a BRM Advanced Trainer certification from the WHO and a certification on Global Health Challenges, Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation from the University of Washington, USA. Presently, he is working Chief of the Public Health Laboratories and acting CEO of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Pakistan. During his time at NIH, he has been working in different capacities and has made significant contributions towards the implementation of several public health system strengthening initiatives and number of national and international collaborative projects related to infectious diseases, laboratory sciences, and surveillance. In addition to his existing appointment, he has been entrusted with important portfolios like National Focal Person of IHR and AMR, Member of WHO IHR Emergency Committee on Polio and COVID-19, Director of Regional Reference Laboratory of Polio, and Director of National Influenza Centre. Over the last 10 years, Dr. Salman has made significant contributions in different areas of health security including the development of IDSRS framework, National Action Plan for Health Security, National Program for AMR and IPC, AMR surveillance, National Laboratory and Biosafety / Biosecurity policies and workforce development. Moreover, he has also represented Pakistan on various meetings and consultations on different areas related to IHR Core Capacities.
